Wild West
So I decided to go with the theme and do a wild west piece. Started on it on Sunday I think. Worked on it all week while the school work load is light. This is the first digital painting I've ever actually drawn perspective guides for - and I didn't do it until about half way through, so I'm positive there are still a few little issues. But hopefully they're not too obvious.

Hah! Nice man. I like it. You managed to put a Murray twist on a wild west theme that's for sure. Your lighting is what always pulls it off. Though I haven't really put my finger on it I do get the impression that there are maybe some "slight" Perspective issues but nothing to bother worrying about. Nice piece man.Great color. after seeing yours and Mikes i feel i should have spent a good deal more time on my "gunslinger"... oh well.
Thanks, man. I'm actually going to go back into it and fix a few things. It was brought to my attention that the anatomy of the horse is wrong and the rider is sitting too low. Leave it to the good people at conceptart.org to find anything and everything wrong. :P What we should do is all take reference photos of ourselves as cowboys and do sketches. I think that would be badass. :P
But I don't have a cowboy hat. Damn.
I do. Haha but it is a bit exaggerated. But I do have one. I have the boots too. So if your interested. I have ...everything but the gun and belt. Or a trench coat if your wanted that. hahaa I would totally be up for that though.
I agree with Jake's idea, we should do that even if we don't need reference for it.... just me? ok I'll be quiet now. BTW great work, if you can tweak the perspective then by all means go for it. I like the splash of blue in there. Really draws the eye in.
Your sense of color is just crazy. Always impresses me. Few problems aside it's a really successful piece. Love the giant cast shadow on the fin of the ship. Really adds alot... and the treatment of that cactus in the bottom corner, and how you painted the over exposure. If I had to nit pick I'd say that the guy does look a tiny bit off, and the perspective on the ship is awkward with how it falls back in space, but I'm only echoing what others have said. After just attempting the horse in my speedpaint, I truely know how hard it is not to make the horse too small, so good job not making a tiny horse haha.
As long as I don't have to model, I'll do that cowboy thing. I saw the cowboy hat at alex's. I don't think I could keep a straight face as friend's pose as cowboy's though. That is also why I can't model.
