Vacation Project #1: The Fisherman
This is just the Color Comp. Let me know what you guys think. I feel pretty good about it so far. I plan to do it Mixed with acrylics, gouache, and maybe some color pencil. The final will be 18x24. I was really trying to use a limited color scheme this time, we'll see how it goes.
And I am still messing with the look of the fish its not quite there yet...

i like the look of the fish actually
i probebly dont need to tell you to make sure you seperate the water and the sky
Either way its good to know if its really something I should keep in mind when I start to really hash stuff out. Thanks.
i like this idea and I agree with your colors I think they will turn out very nice. One thing i think you could work on is the tone of the piece, i think the fish gives a comical feel and the fisherman is a bit more somber. Also if you are still willing to change your comp I think it would be nice to try a different view point. Maybe the feeling you are going for could be emphasized more by the angles. anyway merry Christmas
Hey Alex. Looking pretty good. I think your colors will work well for you. Concerning the fish, I would question whether or not you need to show as much as you are. Are you going for ominous or just a really big normal fish? I don't mind the way it is now, but I would just say that if you're going for ominous, don't show the head. I'd also say that the fish's eye looks a bit weird. The pupil seems a bit small. Here's an okay photo of a fish eye. Anyway, these are all just mere suggestions. I think you're well on your way with this one!
Ooops. I forgot to link the fish eye. Here you go.

I agree with Jake on the ominous thing.
I don't mind the composition at all, although I do think it could be a bit more exciting. For instance you have these rolling waves but that dudes boat looks like it's anchored I mean why draw such flat angles with the boat and the fish? Heck, just tilting the entire picture would give it that off balance feel and I think heighten the drama of the moment.
My last question is, why is there a fish like that hanging out at the top of the water? In my experience, dead fish are the ones that float up there haha. Have him throwing food out or something, or change the angle so it makes a bit more sense. I may be over thinking it, but it just seems off to me.
