CONTEST:: Create your own 'DELIVERY HERO'

Hey everyone! I know that you are all pretty busy with school stuff but here is something I thought some of the Oondu family might be interested in. It's a fun sorta contest that shouldn't take too much time and you can win some good money! It is being held on a platform called Jovoto that hosts a lot of contests for random illustration and graphic/packaging design. Best part is if you place in like the top 12 ish for most contests you get some sort of cash prize (stated in each brief). I have done a few and the money is nice. So check it out.

.....Everyone needs a super hero! Lieferheld.de (translated “Delivery-Hero”) is such - he will go through fire and storm to deliver your lunch where ever you are - well, at the moment he’s busy protecting peoples’ empty stomachs in Berlin but he will soon come to your town as well! To rescue all creatures that are in need of nourishment at a moment’s notice, he needs real superpowers - and they have to show (hasn’t had the time to worry about his appearance yet)! So if you choose to accept, create a hero that will be feared and loved by many!

You are completely free to choose how you want to present your ‘delivery hero’: From pure sketches and illustrations to a complete video-story - everything goes as long as it gives a clear impression of who your ‘delivery hero’ is.

Up to 5,000 in cash prizes as well as a licensing fee of up to 3,000!

Come and sign up to participate here: Lieferheld
Then have a look at the video briefing-

Slightly Revamped Look/A New Theme

It finally has happened and I've made a new template for the themes and although I can't get the text quite the same, and it is driving me absolutely mental, it's no longer "monsters". So for the few wondering when the next theme was going to be... the time is now. Seize the day!

For those unfamiliar with how this works: it's not a requirement, but an opportunity to post something. A general theme to stretch out your art muscles with and share whatever that is to you. It doesn't need to be a full fledged piece or anything, just have some fun with it.

Plan is to change it roughly every two weeks from this point on. So dream a bit extra tonight and draw something up for us to see, alright?

Also new:

You can now just type oondu.net or oondu.org to get to this wonderful blog place since I've finally went ahead and got the lady it's own domain. You can use .com if you want directed to the useless page someone is sitting on, doing nothing with, banking on the fact that I would want to buy it from them. Well I guess shame on me for not buying it earlier when the word was dreamed up. Hey person out there, I'll give you five bucks for it.

Final offer.

Alex made me feel awful. This is all his fault. And oondu news.

Alex posted in a comment that I had abandoned this place essentially, that I was merely the ghost squeaking in the floor boards. Well, that's not true, and to make a spectacle of it and to goad Alex Lyon, I've updated the F.A.Q. finally! Link located above the header.

The main thing in there being that I finally disclose and put into writing my plans for oondu. Highly recommended read there:

In summary, a forum is in the works that will be open to anyone to post, but with CCAD only areas.

Please... discuss. And apologies for pretty much not updating the theme in a very, very long time. That's because I lost a harddrive soon after the redesign, and all the files are now gone. Instead of just editing it I told myself I was just gonna overhaul the header and stuff, but never got around to it.

And here are some joker redesigns I'm doing cause I feel weird not posting art.

New Theme: Creatures/Monsters

Sometimes I cannot believe that I haven't put up a theme like this before. It was time for the mechanical theme to go away, and I definitely had to box up the birthday decorations.

This one is pretty self-explanatory and most of you are doing stuff like this already. I do want to say that the nice stuff is just as welcome as the gross creepy crawly stuff. Have fun with it.

I don't have any site related news today, just a new theme.

One whole year...

... since Oondu was born. 256 posts later and alot of comments, it's still going strong. And for those that wonder at this point, with some fuzzy math, counting on a continuity with traffic as it is, we will be pulling in 15,000 unique views a year. Not too shabby for a place that is completely word of mouth. This number discounts refreshes and funny stuff like that.

And I see you guys down there in Sarasota... Hi Ringling. I would also like to thank the folks from around the world who peeked in. Especially the person from Bahrain who keeps coming back. At least I don't think these are CCADers on vacation.

(I almost forgot about this.)

((But that doesn't make it less important!))

New Theme: Robotics/Mechanical

Themes has returned! After some setbacks on the layout, and some discouragement, and some self-loathing, then excited rejoicing, I've finally got this back up and going.

This new theme is all about the un-organic. It's time to look at factory machines and every bit of tech out there and to come up with something. Whether it has to do with the past, present or future this is really wide open. Which is exactly what we want.

Bit of news stuff now:

Want to tell people: TAG YOUR POSTS. With something that is you. I use my name on all my posts. So if someone wants to see posts specifically with your artwork, that is all they need to do. No one seems to be doing it, and with 255 posts of this writing, no one wants to sift through all that to find everything you've done. Don't go back to do it, although you can if you want, but from now on put something down there in tags to mark it as your own.

Alex Lyon is now a blog admin, and is responsible for getting all of those invites out, as I am just terrible at remembering to do it. So I've said it before but, round of applause to Alex for getting those out. Now to all of you new people, post something so alex doesn't look like a terrible inviter. It's pretty crazy to see this many people involved really, considering oondu at first was only meant to be home to a small collective of 5 or 6. Alas, you just keep thinking of and meeting new people you want on here. All in all, if you want to be involved in all of this talk to Alex. My job now is just to keep the place fresh looking, and sending out occasional invites and keeping the themes going. Should make things a lot less bumpy while school is going.

Now, the layout is pretty much done. Maybe a footer here or there, sidebar prettying up and spacing issues aside... it's done for now. Trying to save all of the work I did already, but the more I looked at the last layout design the more I disliked it. I blame it on bad inspiration, and some neat galaxy photoshop brushes I nabbed. And the recession. And less spicy volcano tacos from Taco Bell. And some other things to avoid saying bad taste. The template is still being really annoying with spacing issues, but it's coming along now, and for whatever reason I'm really in the mood to do this today.

Edit: Finalized the layout. Officially the second template ever completed on Oondu. Woo.

All I can think of for now,
-Mike Puncekar

The 2009 update. Insert Crowd Noise.

So I finally fixed up this place a bit today. Still a work in progress, but you'll keep seeing some subtle changes. I think it just had to be done, it's been awhile since even the theme has been updated, because I can't find the original files for my templates. Doh.

Want to get a nice footer in place still, and get the glows on the tabs not looking so... boxy. I guess we will consider this the 2009 update.

In other news, gonna send out a few more invites. Hopefully we get some new faces around here. And with it some new activity.

Lemme know if anything is viewing weird. Namely mismatched blacks.

New theme! Fairytales and Folktales.
Thanks to Bernadette's brilliant...ness...ity... we have a new suggested theme over to the side. Illustrator's dream theme, really. I know we will have a few for this one. Have to. If we don't, well, I just won't know what to think.

Not only has Alex been volunteering for weird stuff he has found four great judges to accompany the one and only C.F. Payne, who recently got the Obama TIME cover, and is currently found leading our school to victory. All things pending as I hastily make this post. But get excited.

It's all coming together. Now pull yourself up from your computer chair. Be proud. Be awesome. Be an illustrator! Then sit back down, and prep some artwork, or even make some new stuff, you procrastinator, and put it on a CD or memory stick and stop by the office. New Theme: Soviet/Snow

Now that we have had our first "snow" in Columbus I think we needed a nice topic to fit that. Also, this is about the time everyone goes crazy russian, so it's a double topic. Here's looking to the few and brave that open the windows in the middle of the winter and blast the theme from "The Hunt for The Red October".

It just seemed like the other theme had run it's course, and to be honest, I got really sick of that picture of the skulls. But I'm expecting some cool stuff from this one. Especially since I know some of you will finally have some time to do some stuff over Thanksgiving break. I for one, will actually be participating in this one, since while the last one was right up my alley, I somehow missed it. For the next theme after this I have to put up a Christmas one. Have to. But it'll be short lived. For the month of break I am going to change it weekly.

For any new faces, or new readers heres just a reminder of what the heck these themes are: These are merely suggestions for the brain stuck. They are by no means what you have to post on here. Just something to unify some thought and have some fun.

Nothing new going on with the board, other than I keep getting new people, teachers, and students coming up to me or posting about it. So the place is growing. I'm so proud. Gonna be sending out a few more invites soon once I get all organized again. I'm really terrible about sending these things out.

One more reminder, if you are sitting out there on your computer, but are not a member of the board... you can still comment. It's entirely open. Even anonymous posting should be enabled. So lend some words and we'll lend an ear.
