Harold, Spike, and Fat Tits... lol

Ok, so I had to do something for the new theme, Horror/Death... come on... how could I resist. Any way, here's something to keep my interest in art peaked, things were getting stale... let me know what your reaction to it is, is it worth pursuing for a finish piece? bout 2hrs, prolly call it Herald of End Times

This one, however, is a pin up piece im planning on working on for a finished piece. This of corse is just the lines. Its not to late to make changes to it cause im not commited yet, let me know what you think about how I should go about it with colors, or if there is anything wrong with the design. Think cirqe de solei clowns...

Good to see you taking advantage of the new post topic haha. I didn't think you would pass it up. I love the design of the character in the digital paint. The only thing that I feel doesn't make any sense is the respirator on the skull. It just doesn't seem to fit any thing else in the composition.

The line drawing below that has a few awkward tangents the first one that I noticed is the circus stand in the background is on a different plane then the figures. Something needs to happen with the arc on the bottom and the relation to the right edge of the stand. The second one I noticed was the arms. The bicep of the right arm (on the left) cuts in to soon passing behind the boobs. For the forearm to make sense resting on her thigh the bicep needs to be more full. With the left arm it seems like the shoulder socket would have to be at neck level to have the arm that high. And a personal pref. I would like to see more torso and less fat tits. haha. But going by the post name this may be a fruitless suggestion.

Its always good to let other people tell you the flaws they see cuz other wise, i would have missed them!
Thanks Alex, I agree with you on 2 of your suggestions, the left bicep should be longer, and easy fix, i just need to drop the shoulder, I actually think it will improve the design some, the stand your also right about, it seems tilted and not on the same piece of ground shes on.

I don't however agree with the right arm suggestion, It looks correct to me, maybe some other people can let me know what they think, as for the skulls, "respirator" (its actually a speaker, ya know, herald) im confused by what you mean that it doesn't fit

OH its a speaker?? With the tube running from it, I thought it was something like a respirator, which made me place it with a future kinda vibe but then the city below looks more 18th century England. but if that is a speaker...that starts to make more since with the design. MY mistake.

Its cool, I can see how you would confuse that, It COULD look more like a speaker. I'll keep that in mind if I keep going with this one.

I thought it was some kind of breathing mask as well. I don't mind the picture but the light source is driving me crazy. The figure is lit from the front, and the shadows ignore the moon back there lingering in the distance. Letting that moon give him glow and cast the shadow along his front could really add some mood to it. I mean from here it's still so early, but flames almost always burn upwards unless under sudden movement, so I Wouldn't mind seeing some of those flames dance. I like this idea of a herald, and before I read that, I didn't quite get it. Some how it does feel a bit empty, but maybe that isn't a bad thing. Some taller buildings breaking up his silhouette would fix the isolation.

Going into the second one, you must know I'm not the biggest fan of crazy tig ol' bitties, and to be honest I' not even looking at it all that much since I'm sitting in the Learning Resource Center peeking over my shoulder waiting for someone to comment. But I did catch a few things. As a pinup it's looking good. The first thing that stuck out to me was her eyes. Not so much that they carry the asian style, but because they are set so far up on her head. If you continue the bridge of the nose up and over the eye socket, the eye's should go no higher than that. They are on her forehead technically. The other thing is the lack of the downward perspective on the dog. He's on an entirely different plane than she is, and as a result he's actually distracting from the breasts, and we don't want that. So there is my 2 cents. I think it pulls off a modern day pin-up.

So here is my personal rant and skip over it if you wish, but it is in regards to pin-ups. To me a pin-up isn't just a naked chick. Pin-ups are women being powerful. These are women that could have men slobbering at their feet, and they know it. This needs some of that mysteriousness, and not just a top that is too small. The greatest pin-ups are entirely tasteful. It's about capturing that flirty attitude and giving it to the viewer and leaving them wanting more. Those will garner longer looks. I think pin-ups today mostly don't have this, and it has become a contest of showing the most skin. So really I guess it is a question of what kind of pin-up genre you are trying to appeal to. The one that makes soldiers fight alittle harder before battle, or the fat little greasy man behind the dirty magazine counter.

Was just admiring the perspective on your pin-up, looks pretty good man. I know your tough as nails when it comes to critique, so apologies if that came off a bit harsh. I like the concepts and the drawings quite a bit. I'm a sucker for skulls and flaming crowns.I hope you keep on chugging on both of them, cause I don't really want to see either of these go. Do you always start with that exact of a line?

thanks for the imput as always mike. Few things in my defence. I left the herald well lit so you could see the character, and I wanted it to pop out of the blackness of his shroud, I can always play around with it more though and a little more darkness would prolly go a long way. Im not quite sure by what you mean regarding the flames, youll have to clarify that.

As for the pin up, I see what you mean with the eyes being to high, it didnt bother me at first, but ill be sure to revisit them, as for the dog, i could sure use some reference, anyone know anyone with a Chihuahua i could take a picture of?

As far as your personal rant, let me just say "HUH?" there is no nudity, its about as tasteful as I can make it, shes completely clothed, and as for the empowerment thing, did you miss that she making a MALE dog in a clumsy outfit jump and beg for a ball, maybe you just missed my symbolism on that one....so ... i was confused to say the least by what you said, still, its good things to think about. Your correct by the way, there is a fine line between pin ups and porn

i inked it so the scan would show up for the post

thanks again man... im gona go put some ointment on my wounds from your tongue lashing =)
