Here's an AOI/SOI piece I've been working on in the past few days. I've had the idea for a while, but it took a long time to actually get started. Its title could probably be something like "yellow wallpaper eats ugly sweaters." This isn't a self portrait of my inner conflicts or whatever, I'm basically the only model I could find... what a flattering painting! This isn't finished yet, I have some parts I need to work on. Any suggestions would be great!

Wow Margaret this is looking really good. I am LOVING the use of the wallpaper pattern and the saturation of that yellow. The only thing that i am thinking would be good to see is more of the hair being blown about in the first stage. Not a great deal but just more near the top so she doesn't feel so separated from the other two stages. she is interacting with them but she feels isolated. This is really nice though. Kudos on this.

OH! if those are buttons flying off...I can't tell. You may already know that though. I forgot that this is still a work in progress.

my suggestion? send me a print

i would love to know how you got that pattern in the background

you might want to revisit the distorted face at the top, maybe some more detail in the lines of the face or eyes

Thanks guys, I'll touch up the face, buttons, and hair this week.

For the background I found a photo someone took of their wallpaper, it was pretty generic and old, and I traced the original pattern in illustrator and then copy & pasted it and connected them together to make a totally flat pattern (the original photo was distorted and of low quality). I transferred this pattern to photoshop and played around with the values and colors. I messed with the background as I developed the characters, warping it, adding drippies and using the paintbucket tool to change values and colors.

best comment ever.

I think it looks great Meg. The Wallpaper is a nice touch. The left hand and glasses on the middle figure could use some tweaking. The hand expression looks too forced and the pinky is bent too much, looks too big. The glasses look like they're cutting into the face when I think they should be place a bit farther away from the face. It might be cool if you have a little bit of suggestion of the specs with the back figure too. Kudos on a job well done!

Groff... i just don't know what to say.

I think the background line that overlaps the figures is a bit clunky, I don't know if having it end so harsh and abruptly (to the left of the main figure) is a great idea. That's just the ultimate in nitpicking though. Excellent job

I think you have a bitchin' shot at SOI

Damn good piece. Amazing how much that little design element adds to it as it flows throughout the piece. The yellow is a bit too sick for my own personal tastes, but it by no means hurts the piece.
