No Place Like Home WIP

This is the line drawing and value study for my no place like home entry. (Via IL Methods)

I'll post again after I finish the first painting session in class.

I think the lighting is pretty sick. I love the statue. Especially the wings. The only thing that immediately stands out to me is the perspective on the right figure and the horse. He almost looks like he's falling over.

Thanks! haha yeah one of my other friends noticed that, I'm not sure how I missed it all through the line drawing and the rendering. It'll be fixed in the painting though. :p

It's alright dude, just say the horse is drunk xD. Are you doing it in acrylics? If so, that's gonna be a bitch. I got away with doing a few projects in oils for IL Meth.

Actually Kovach gave me the ok to do it digitally thank God, Acrylic would have sucked. Although that's probably what I would have done had digital not been ok.

Hah, I was always too scared to ask to do it digitally. A lot of the Illustration teachers really hate digital work and just technology in general. Kovach is pretty awesome. He let me get away with doing a lot of stuff outside the parameters of an assignment. His critiques were the best.

Yeh he said that normally people aren't quite good enough at digital to let them use it, but he really liked some of my work so he was all for it.

He is very helpful, I like how he critiques on a professional level instead of lowering the bar cus we're "Just sophomores in college."

Yeah, well, every teacher I've had this year gives bad critiques. They just say "this looks nice" and move on. I'm pretty sick of it. I like it better when a teacher says "this shit looks awful" and then explains why. No one can improve by getting compliments.

What project is this for?

Yeah I can see how that would be frustrating. Well originally I think we were supposed to be doing a project with flat shapes but still showing space, but he nixed that since it's too similar to what we do in Design and decided to have everybody do a piece for the spotlight show.

We had to do 50 thumbnails based on the theme "no place like home" and then pick 3 to do complete line drawing layouts, he would pick the best of those and have us do a value study and then finish it in whatever medium we want as long as he approved. Pretty awesome project I think.

I don't remember either of those projects- the only one he made us do three line drawings for was the poster one and I thought that was second semester. We were supposed to have super specific dimensions and I did a piece that was 3 feet tall and 1 1/2 foot wide and put antlers coming out of a girl's eyes. xD I never listen.

Just wait until you do the school supplies project second semester. You'll want to kill yourself!

Ah yeah I've seen the your antler girl piece, it's very nice. :) GAH the suspense of why I'll want to kill myself will probably kill me before I do. XD
