Personal Branding?

Hey guys. I have decided I need to really pick one of these and stick with it. Personally I love them both and currently have the first on my site and the second on my blog. I thought it would be good to get some feed back on the two. Let me know Which you guys like the most.

I still prefer the first one. The second one is neat, but still gives me a graphic designer vibe way more than an illustrator. And Reproducing that in one color to put in the corner of work or something, wouldn't really work, as the kerning is pretty jacked so they overlapped correctly. And there are a bunch of weird tangents. (like with the O and the , a triple tangent, that if you made it one color would look like a mess. And the place where the L hits the Y in both spots is a bit distracting.

The first one is simple and nice, and I really dont have any real crits for it. And considering I don't even think I've seen you make art with any of those bright colors of the second logo, I think this is a pretty easy choice.

I agree with Mike to a certain extent. I'm drawn to the colored one because it's designed, but I don't think it reads "illustrator". The top one is well done, (I hate to say this) but I feel like it's a little too formal for your fun, kinda playful illustrations.

And regarding what Mike said about making the colored one b & w, you could easily just make the overlapping areas complete black, and have the areas not overlapping be small diagonal lines. This would only work so small though; business card size would work, but probably not too much smaller than that. The tangent at the top of the LY does bother me too. If I had to pick one as they are right now, I'd probably go with the top, but I feel that it still needs tweaking for it to represent your work.

Like I said earlier, my vote is for the first one!

I think the first one is you for sure. I think you need to line "illustration" up with the vertical part of the L and N rather than the serifs.
Maybe you could replace the lion with a profile of you with a mane. just kidding

I thought it was a pic of you with a mane...

I'm gonna have to side with Mike on this one as well. The top one has a better feel to it. Love the type too. The bottom one feels more like a company than a single person. The bottom one looks good but I dont feel like it represents you or the work you do very well... This coming from the guy whose known you for almost 10 years

These are all damn good points to be made. Thanks for the feed back guys, with votes this one sided it is kinda obvious which to go with. Time to print business cards!
